For our Institute for Remote Sensing Technology in Oberpfaffenhofen we are looking for a
Student Engineering, Computer Science or similar (f/m/x)
Quality assurance of aerial and satellite image datasets for transport research projects 
What to expect:
The Remote Sensing Technology Institute regularly acquires aerial imagery with the aircrafts and helicopters of the DLR research fleet and the institute’s camera system. In addition, high-resolution satellite images represent an important data basis. For ideal utilisation of these sensor systems, methods and algorithms are being developed that automatically extract relevant geo-information.
With your work, you support the development of deep-learning methods with a focus on remote sensing data for application in transport research projects. Your work will include the following tasks:
  • accompanying the entire process of creating annotated reference datasets: starting with the requirement analysis, the development and test implementation of a guideline, through the selection of aerial and satellite images, to supporting the operational implementation and final acceptance
  • participating in the refinement of the quality assurance system for DLR’s own reference datasets
  • communication with external partner

What we expect from you:
  • registered student (Bachelor/Master), a connection to image processing and/or the transport sector is advantageous
  • enthusiasm in traffic-related analysis of aerial and satellite imagery
  • ability to work conscientiously and independently
  • good English skills, both in written and spoken language
  • basic knowledge in operating geographic information systems is advantageous
