Enter the fascinating world of the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) and help shape the future through research and innovation! We offer an exciting and inspiring working environment driven by the expertise and curiosity of our 11,000 employees from 100 nations and our unique infrastructure. Together, we develop sustainable technologies and thus contribute to finding solutions to global challenges. Would you like to join us in addressing this major future challenge? Then this is your place!
For our Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics in Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich we are looking for a
Master Student Engineering, Computer Science or similar (f/m/x)
Improving Human-Robot-Interaction through Immersive Interfaces
What to expect:
Teleoperation of robotic systems, for example during space or search-and-rescue missions, is a highly demanding task for the operator. New possibilities of human-machine-interfaces like Mixed-Reality (MR) can help to reduce the mental workload of the user. To evaluate the benefits of a MR interface for the operator compared to standard graphical user interface (GUI), your task will be to develop a concept how to transfer the main features of an existing GUI for robotic teleoperation into a MR application. You will create a prototype based on your concept and evaluate it in a user study.
Your tasks:
  • research and categorization of existing concepts for mixed reality interfaces in robotics and robotic teleoperation
  • develop a concept for transferring an existing graphical user interface into a mixed-reality interface
  • implement and test your concept in a prototypical application
  • conduct a user study to evaluate your concept
What we expect from you:
  • profound knowledge in programming with C# and Unity
  • experience with Mixed-Reality software development and State-of-the-Art frameworks, e.g. MRTK or XR Interaction Toolkit
  • basic knowledge about 3D-modeling
  • basic knowledge about robotics, especially robotic middleware, e.g. ROS
  • beneficial: experience/knowledge about the conduction and evaluation of user studies
What we offer:
DLR stands for diversity, appreciation and equality for all people. We promote independent work and the individual development of our employees both personally and professionally. To this end, we offer numerous training and development opportunities. Equal opportunities are of particular importance to us, which is why we want to increase the proportion of women in science and management in particular. Applicants with severe disabilities will be given preference if they are qualified.
